Top 10 Ways to Keep the Carpet Cleaner Away
(in our opinion)
Vacuum Your Traffic Areas Regularly
All carpet should be vacuumed once a week; high traffic walkways twice more during the week. In most cases, it will only take you 5-10 minutes. This single act alone will probably double the life of your carpet.
Put a spray bottle of water with your other spot removers. For a water soluble spill, try water first; 50% of the time, that's all you'll need. If it's not water soluble, use other spot removers as appropriate. If it's ink, toner, paint, etc., don't touch it. Call an experienced, reliable pro.
Keep Chemicals Out
Chemical residue is a carpet killer and it's a harmful thing for young children and pets to breathe. Use all stain removers as sparingly as possible and then rinse.
Blot; Don't Rub
Blot gently; rubbing can distort the carpet fibers and drive the stain deeper into the yarn.
Change the Hoses
The majority of home floods are caused by broken washing machine hoses. Check them regularly,
and change them every two to four years.
Rotate Your Cushions
Change both the faces and positions of the cushions on your sofa; this will help to avoid both worn spots and heavily soiling from family member's favorite corners.
Rotate Your Area Rugs
This will help to more evenly distribute wear and tear.
Fringe Goes First
Don't judge when you need to have an area rug cleaned by the rug itself but by the condition of the fringe since that is the most costly part of the cleaning.
Grout Goes First
The soil condition of the grout is the correct indicator of when tile needs to be cleaned.
This is an opinion based on 35 plus years of on-the-job carpet cleaning and over 15 years in the retail carpet business. Nylon is better than all other fibers . It cleans most easily and does not pack or mat as much as other fibers.
